Girl Online Going Solo Review

Today I am doing a review on the third book in one of my favourite series that I have been waiting months for: Girl Online! I remember when I finished reading the first two books: Girl Online and Girl Online On tour that I was dying for a third book, but at the point in time Zoe Sugg, also known as Zoella had not released any information about if she was releasing a third book. So when she released the information that in fact she was working on a third book earlier this year I was so excited. I raced down to my store yesterday to pick up this book, because the day had finally arrived, the book I as dying to read was finally released! Girl Online Going Solo.

However, I was not able to finish this book in one day, the way I would have liked, but life got in the way. The joys of being an Adult! However, I finally got to sit down today and read the last 250 pages of this wonderful book. I’m so excited to share my thoughts with you all, I currently can not share my feelings and emotions with my fiancé, the person that has had to hear all my feelings and deal with all my emotions on this series since day 1, as he is currently streaming the new Pokémon Sun and Moon release! So, I thought I would share with you guys, while I am waiting for him to finish streaming for the night, which shouldn’t be too far off as it is currently 11:23pm as I type this out.

Yes, I’ve also been playing the new Pokémon Sun and Moon today too! What can I say, I’m a bit of a ‘nerd’, is that the word people like to describe us wonderful people that love books, games and everything amazing!

Please bear with me while I try to give a short summary of the book and while I try to put my emotions and feelings into words, I find this rather difficult to put my feelings into words online.

There may be a few spoilers, I apologise for this, I will try to keep them to a minimal, but please read at your own discretion! 🙂

Penny’s life is back to normal.

As Penny starts the school year she’s ready to face the world – alone. Noah has gone off the radar after ending his world tour early and no one, including Penny, knows where he is. So when she accepts Megan’s invitation to visit her performing arts school it seems like an opportunity to make some new friends.

Helping everyone else seems to be the right remedy. Elliot needs her friendship more than ever, and she meets Posey – struggling with stage fright and in need of support. But is charming Scottish boy Callum the right kind of distraction? And can Penny truly move on when  Noah’s shadow seems to haunt her round every corner?

Summary:

This third book in the Girl Online series: Going Solo, is about how Penny tries to go back to her normal life, ‘normal’ being how her life was before she started dating the famous hot band guy Noah from New York. After the two breaking up and going their separate ways, Noah finds that the break up for him is harder than what he thought, quitting the world tour and going in hiding to figure out his head and emotions, not telling anyone where he is, not even his grandma and his little sister Bella.

Penny is heartbroken and tries to find ways to distract her self by infesting all her time in to her blog, and her photography as well as helping those around her, especially Elliot, her childhood best friend and her new found friend Posey that she meets while visiting her friend Megan at her New School.

Penny’s life starts to change when she visits Megan one weekend at Megan’s New School: Madame Laplage, a school for drama, musical, and anything creative, even photography. This is when Penny meets a hot Scottish boy Callum, a boy that loves photography as much as she does, however this soon leads to her having a panic attack, having being a sufferer of anxiety, knows she must get away and runs out of the school common room leaving Callum starring after her completely confused. While re-covering from her panic attack sees a girl from across the grass crying, so she walks over and asks if she is okay, little did she know she girl was going to be her new best friend – Posey.

Posey suffering from Stage fright, needs Penny’s help to over come this to perform the lead role in her schools performance. Penny helps by introducing Posey and Megan to Leah Brown, a famous singer. However, this eventually goes drastically wrong, pulling Megan, Posey and Penny apart after one of these girls portrayed her by leaking one of Leahs new songs that are yet to be released yet. Penny finds out who her true friends are.

In the meantime, she finds out that Callum, happens to be the cousin of the couple that are getting married in Scotland. The wedding that Penny’s mum and Noah’s grandmother happening to be catering. Little did Penny know, that while she was dancing with Callum at this wedding, was going to be the time that she got that moment that she had been waiting for, Noah’s return. Leaving Penny feeling confused and an emotional wreck, deciding whether she wants to be with Noah or just be friends?

My feelings and Opinions:

First, I would like to start this off by stating that when I picked up this book yesterday, the first thing I did was read the blurb, this was a bit devastating for me. This was because the blurb gave the impression that Noah and Penny were not going to get back together, making me too worried to read it, but I pushed past this, my heart telling me that for sure Noah and Penny would be back together and everything would be okay again in the world of Girl Online. I’m completely team Pennoah. To me these two people are just absolutely gorgeous together, truly magical. I would be completely devastated if Zoella ended this book with these two not being back together.

When Noah turned up at the Wedding to ask Penny to dance while she was with Callum, I was mixed with some many emotions. I was so sad for Penny because she was so hear broken over losing Noah and was trying so hard to move past it all, so I was all for her meeting new guys but I also wanted Noah to turn up and fix everything. However, I did not expect it to happen while she was on a date with Callum. My heart went out to Penny in this moment, I would not know what to do if I was in her position. However, I was still so happy that Noah was back! It gave me hope that Pennoah would be back together at last!

I really love the friendship that was created between Penny and Elliot, it’s such a beautiful friendship, nothing could ever get between them and it is simply beautiful, you do not seem many of those friendships around. Elliot is such a beautiful character so full of life and emotions and simply makes you feel like you want to protect him and hug him and tell him everything is going to be alright!

I absolutely loved this book! I was sad that it had to end, but I was so happy that I got to read this book and be apart of the Girl Online book community. This book has helped me so much in getting through my own life issues, and has been an inspiring series to read. Especially because Penny has her own blog, and one of the main plots in this series is her blog, I have found it rather inspiring for my own blog. This book series: Girl Online has opening up my mind to many ideas, inspiring me to get back into my passion of art after reading about Penny’s inspirations and dedication to her Photography. It helped me realise that I have missed doing the things I love. The relationship between Noah and Penny also make me feel so grateful and happy for my fiancé, sometimes it’s nice to have that reminder of what you have and to not take that for granted you know? Because I know that I am extremely lucky to have my fiancé, and like everyone, sometimes I forget how lucky I am. This is the type of book that any young person would love. I fell in love with this series straight away and I know I could read this again and again!

I gave this book 5 stars because I loved it so much, there is nothing bad that I can say about this book! Zoella did an amazing job! I hope that she continues to write, even if it is not for Girl Online, but for other books! She has an amazing talent!

Have you read this book? Are you going to? What are your thoughts? 🙂

  • Audience appeal (who would enjoy reading this book?)

Any one that loves a story about how a young teenage girl that’s trying to get through the high school drama scene, while being in love, being a blogger and suffering from anxiety. This story is basically a young adult love story that is set during the teen years. It is easily relatable so easily to get attached to! I got attached to this because I can relate so much to this. It is so well written and easy to read, you just fall in love easily. Its a book for all ages.

  • Your favourite line/scene

One of my favourite scenes in the book is when Penny is whisked away from a wedding reception by the mysterious Noah to the roof topic for a night picnic under the New York stars. I love this scene because Penny demonstrated all those feelings you have when you are first falling in love when you’re a teenager. Its just full of happiness, love, excitement, shyness, just everything that resembles those butterfly feelings you get when you first go on a date with the guy you have a crush on. I’m a sucker for the corny love scenes 🙂
